Heart disease is the #1 killer of women in the United States. On Friday, February 12, AAHPS employees joined the rest of Athens in wearing red to create awareness about women and heart disease! The Go Red for Women campaign was launched in February of 2004. At that time, only 13% of women could identify heart disease as their leading health threat.

Commitment is defined as someone that pledges themselves. Fay Davis and Angie Rousey certainly displayed this on October 17th as they participated in the 13.1 mile walk for the charity event, “In Their Shoes”. Despite the cold and the rain they persevered in completing the challenge that they committed to.
For Fay, she has forever been changed. She saw during the 13.1 miles there were many challenges, whether it be fatigue, large hills or aches in her body, but with the support of the on lookers she felt strengthened and empowered. She likened these challenges to what a cancer patient goes through. They face so much, but on the other hand, the community, family, that surrounds them carries them through.

After the experience Fay is determined to stay involved year round at the Loran Cancer Center and do whatever is asked of her. Angie wanted to be a part of something bigger than herself and wanted to accept the challenge of bearing the responsibility to raise money
and extend herself for such a worthy cause. We appreciate Fay and Angie for sacrificing in order to further the fight to win the battle against Breast Cancer.
